Dragon-level alert: This article is dark and full of spoilers for season 7 episode 6 of Game of Thrones!
This week’s episode was purely epic! Fans got their hands on everything they wanted. They saw three dragons in full action at the same time. However, probably the most important insight was spending more than five seconds in the company of White Walkers and wights. This full episode was dedicated to the suicide squad of seven and their fight with an entire army of undead. In the meantime, we got to learn some exciting facts about these mystical creatures.
All Living Beings Can Join the Army of the Undead
While confronting the Others even less prepared than they used to be in the past, Jon Snow’s squad managed to survive an apocalyptic battlefield. Therefore, they lived to tell the tales to King’s Landing and they even have a not-so-much-flesh and bones wight to show them. On top of that, there are some new details about the powers of these blue-eyed creatures.
First of all, TV show fans got to learn by themselves that the undead army can recruit animals as well, such as the giant bear that ‘welcomed’ Jon Snow and his brotherhood. The book readers were already aware of that. On top of that, they also manage to revive Viserion the dragon with blue eyes. It will be interesting to see if it continues to spit fire or its deadly weapon would now be ice instead.
We also understood that fire isn’t distracting wights at all from their killing urge. While dragon’s fire can turn them into ashes, a blazing torch is not a wise weapon of choice when trying to protect yourself against the undead.
The Army of White Walkers Is More Organic than One Would Thought
While it is once again confirmed that Valyrian Steel and Dragonglass are the only effective weapons against White Walkers, we learn something fresh as well. Once their creator is dead, wrights that came into this form by its hand will die as well. That’s good to know that Jon Snow doesn’t have to battle them all by himself, but just the remaining three heads of the army. These are two simple White Walkers and the Night King.
There’s one last thing that comes up as interesting, namely their communication channel. Wights can let out a high-pitched scream, and the others will follow in just seconds. As for their leaders, it’s like they’re reading each other’s mind. They don’t use words yet they know exactly how to work together. Therefore, we can only conclude that they can communicate through telepathy.
