Police Had Questioned the YouTube Shooter Nasim Aghdam Without Realizing She Was a Threat

Apr 5, 2018 By Jose Buttner Leave a Comment

Rifle placed on a rug

Nasim Aghdam was upset at YouTube’s decision to demonetize her videos

A 39-year-old Iranian woman went on a rampage at the YouTube headquarters and started shooting at people without no clear target. It turned out her anger came from the company’s recent decision regarding ad revenue, as well as the policy on gun videos. However, it seems the police had questioned her right before the attack, and no one thought she could be capable of it.

Police had interviewed Aghdam before the shooting

On Tuesday, Nasim Aghdam started a shooting at the YouTube headquarters, where she wounded three people and shot herself dead. The police later discovered the woman was mad at YouTube’s decision to demonetize her video. This happened as the company no longer agreed to violent content or display of firearms in videos.

It turns out police officers spotted the woman around the headquarters several hours before she started the rampage. They noticed her sitting in her, and decided to undertake an official questioning. Throughout a 20-minute interview, she told the police she had had trouble in her family. Thus, she was forced to leave her home, and had to sleep in her car.

She had given no evidence she had mental health issues

The woman gave no signs that she was a public threat, and she mentioned no words regarding her outrage towards YouTube. This way, the police let her go, as they found herself harmless. Immediately after the incident, they realized they had made a mistake.

They quickly identified her car, so they started looking for other places where Aghdam lived or passed. Also, they looked for other vehicles she had driven, and traced her gun to see who had bought it. This way, they found a woman who introduced herself as Aghdam’s aunt. She described the woman as a good person. Also, the aunt said she had never experienced any mental health episodes or anything similar.

At first, the police officers couldn’t find Aghdam’s motivation to start the shooting. They found no connection between her and the people she shot, and realized she had no clear target and started shooting randomly. Only after did they discover her concern was actually with YouTube.

Jan 27, 2018 By Jose Buttner Leave a Comment

Newborn in trashcan.

Clovis authorities said that newborn in trashcan was born on Wednesday.

Clovis police officers recently apprehended an 18-year-old woman who allegedly gave birth and disposed of the newborn in a trash can. The newborn was declared dead at the scene and the mother charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering physical injury to an infant.

Newborn in Trashcan was Born on Wednesday

According to the Clovis Police Department, on Thursday morning, an individual dialed 911 and informed the dispatcher that something was wrong with the trashcans in the neighborhood. The emergency dispatcher was informed that several bloodstains were found on the street and a trashcan was entirely covered in blood.

The fire and police departments were directed to the Alluvial and Minnewawa are for further investigation. Upon arriving at the area, the investigators discovered the body of a newly born boy dumped in the trashcan.

The authorities began combing the area to locate the mother of the newborn. According to the official report, the search led them to a house not far away from where the deceased infant was found. Upon questioning the members of the house, the authorities determined that the baby was born on Wednesday morning and belonged to 18-year-old Angela Hamilton.

As a precautionary measure, the mother of the newborn in trashcan was transported to the local hospital for medical attention. According to Angela’s parents, no one around the house knew the 18-year-old was pregnant nor were they aware that their daughter has given birth.

After her convalescence, Angela will be scheduled to appear in court where she will have to answer to the charges of involuntary manslaughter and endangering physical injury to an infant.

Conclusion

Although the authorities determined that Angela Hamilton is the mother of the unfortunate infant found in the trashcan, the case is still under scrutiny to determine how the child passed away.

IT Employee of Former Leader Wasserman Schultz Charged with Bank Fraud

Jul 28, 2017 By Benjamin Teh Leave a Comment

debbie wasserman schultz

Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the former leader of the Democratic National Committee. One of her staffers from the IT department was recently seized just before fleeing the United States. The IT employee got charged with bank fraud. On top of that, this event constitutes another piece in a strange story.

FBI Agents Has Been Investigating the Case of Schultz’s IT Employee Since February

On Tuesday, Imran Awan was trying to go through the border and reach Pakistan. However, FBI caught him before leaving the country. Consequently, he was arrested on charges of scamming the Congressional Federal Credit Union.

Awan allegedly told lies about a loan valued at $165,000. His wife was also involved in this fraud by nominating a property in Alexandria as their primary residence. In fact, the location was only a rental. The funds were then transferred to Pakistan integrally.

Imran Awan has been working on Capitol Hill for a long time. However, he was in actuality a shared employee who had been standing at the disposal of several Democratic members of Congress for 13 years. The latest employer was Wasserman Schultz who got him fired after the incident.

The federal agents followed Awan closely ever since the month of February. The IT employee together with his wife and other several members of his family became the prime suspects in a procurement scam investigation. The entire group is held responsible for the disappearance of equipment from 20 House members and illegal access to House IT network.

The Odd Element of the Story Is Wasserman Schultz’s Decision to Keep the Staffer Despite FBI Investigation

However, the media sniffed something suspicious the moment all officials except Wasserman Schultz decided to release Awan from his duties. After police officers captured the scammer and got hold of his possessions, Schultz reportedly asked permission to retrieve a laptop that belonged to her.

On the other hand, Awan’s lawyer justified his client’s intentions to leave the country as a period of retreat to his family. The justification relies on Awan’s unjust discharge from his office and harassment coming from media and bloggers.

Recovered Data Recording Device Offers Insights on Fitzgerald Accident

Jun 23, 2017 By Lori Martinez Leave a Comment

warship

On Saturday morning, the destroyer USS Fitzgerald entered in a collision with a Philippine merchant ship off the coast of Yokosuka. The Philippine vessel was four times bigger than the American carrier. Therefore, the starboard side was completely crushed, and its superstructure was penetrated. Seven sailors succumbed to death in a case of flooding. Japanese authorities have just retrieved a data recording device that contains more details about what really happened.

The Retrieved Data Recording Device Had Key Information about the Accident

Authorities on both sides are still investigating the collision that put in jeopardy the lives of almost 100 American sailors. Japanese transport safety officials announced that they managed to recover a data recording device. This tool acts similarly to what airplanes have as a black box.

According to data discovered by Japanese investigators, the impact the USS Fitzgerald suffered from its collision with the ACX Crystal merchant ship cut off their communications for about one hour. At this time, the crew aboard the Philippine-flagged vessel was unaware of what was the cause of the crash. They had to pull back to discover the damaged American warship.

The current scenario finds Crystal heading to Tokyo on autopilot. Japanese authorities believe the Philippine sailors were dormant at the time of the collision. They needed a full hour until they noticed the vessel in distress. At 2:30 a.m. local time they announced the authorities about the accident.

The Seven Sailors that Tried to End the Flood Had to Seal a Watertight Door

The Gerald R. Ford Carrier was operating a routine transit off the coast of Japan. The collision perforated several spaces including the stateroom of the officer Bryce Benson. Therefore, Benson was caught out of the hull until his colleagues rescued him. A Japanese helicopter transported Benson and two other sailors to a Navy hospital in Yokosuka.

At the same time, the collision caused 10-feet-by-10-feet to the 14-feet-by-14-feet hole. As the point of penetration was bellow the waterline, seven sailors fought to overcome an inevitable flooding. However, they had no other solution than to seal a watertight door to save the entire ship. The investigation of the accident is ongoing.

Kansas Bail Bondsman Arrested After Killing Son and Feeding Him to Pigs

May 9, 2017 By Jose Buttner Leave a Comment

pair of pigs in mud

On Monday, Michael Jones, a Kansas bail bondsman, was sentenced to life in prison after he murdered his 7-year-old son and fed his remains to the pigs. According to prosecutors, the child’s sad death followed a life of abuse and starvation.

Jones Was Not Able to Face His Relatives

This March, the 46-year-old pleaded guilty to murdering his son, Adrian Jones, in the fall of 2015. On Monday, the court sentenced him to life in prison. The murderer will receive the possibility of applying for parole after serving a minimum of 25 years. His wife and the child’s stepmother, Heather Jones, also received a life sentence, the woman failing to prove she tried to stop her husband from abusing his son.

During the trial, the bail bondsman kept his back to his family, refusing to make eye contact with his relatives who insisted that the man should never be allowed to see the light of the sun ever again. His mother, grandmother, and older sister were all appalled by his action, recounting, in great detail, his violent nature and propensity to cruelty.

Adrian Died a Terrible Tormenting Death

Adrian lived a tortured life. He was beaten, starved, locked in a modified shower stall, stunned for over 20 seconds at a time with a taser, obligated to spend the night up to his neck in a pool filled with stagnant water, and strapped to an inversion table – all because of his father’s twisted thirst for violence.

After the boy’s death, Jones once again showed no mercy, cutting the boy into pieces and feeding him to the pigs. It took the authorities two months to realize that the boy was missing, looking into the matter after the step-mother filed a complaint for abuse.

Officers found Adrian’s remains scattered in the pigs’ stall. About 30 cameras placed throughout the Kansas property offered more than enough evidence to how the couple treated the child.

Pharmaceutical Firm Needs to Pay $3 Million Over Man’s Suicide

Apr 23, 2017 By Jose Buttner Leave a Comment

pharmaceutical firm Paxil drug

After the man killed himself, Wendy Dolin, his wife sued the pharmaceutical firm.

The cases of depression and anxiety are increasing nowadays. In 2010, Steward Dolin committed suicide. He had been taking a special drug for anxiety and depression that was produced by GlaxoSmithKline. Paroxetine, the drug that Steward took could increase the risk of suicidal behavior. After the man killed himself, Wendy Dolin, his wife sued the pharmaceutical firm.

The woman mentioned that she finds the company guilty for not warning doctors about the risks of suicidal behavior. In this case, the jury decided to rule in favor of the widow. Despite the fact that the man was taking the generic form of the drug and not Paxil, the one made by GlaxoSmithKline, they were still considered guilty.

The widow, Wendy Dolin, mentioned that she didn’t sue the pharmaceutical firm for the money. She wanted to raise awareness, to show to the public that big companies can be defeated in a lawsuit. Wendy Dolin added that she is not anti-drug but some pharmaceutical companies should be more careful with their products.

Of course, GSK mentioned that they are disappointed with the verdict and that they want to appeal. The company stated that they did not market the drug that was ingested by Steward Dolin and they should not be held responsible. They also stated that their drug, Paxil, provides adequate and completed warning about the side effects.

The widow is also advocating for the safety of patients. She wants to raise awareness of akathisia. This condition is actually a state of anxiety that occurs when people take antipsychotic and antidepressants. The women started an organization in the memory of her husband. Medication-Induced Suicide Prevention and Education Foundation is the organization’s name and it plans to help people cope with suicidal behavior.

Wendy Dolin stated that she is happy with the result, that she was finally able to make justice for her husband and other hundreds of people who were in the same situation. If the pharmaceutical company is going to appeal, some things might change. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next in this case.

What is your opinion about this case? Do you think that the pharmaceutical company is responsible?

April Fool’s Day Around the World

Apr 1, 2017 By Benjamin Teh Leave a Comment

April Fool's Day Jester hat

Happy April Fool’s Day from Regal Tribune!

Since today is the first day of April, we have decided to prepare something special just for you. Also known as the International Day of Pranks and Pranksters, the day of April is indeed a celebration of laughter and ingenious hoaxes. In our modest article, we’re going to show you some of the famous public pranks performed around the world, and, of course, give a couple of details as to the origin of this celebration.

Did you know that the origin of this celebration of hoaxes can be traced back to Ancient Rome? On the 25th of March, the Romans celebrated the so-called Hilaria festival, which involved games, masquerades, and, more than likely, imitation contests. Historical records show that these types of celebrations often followed a period of mourning and lamentation.

During this day, by public degree, no Roman citizen was allowed to mourn or shed any tear. Geoffrey Chaucer in his Canterbury Tales and 16th-century poet Eloy d’Amerval also dropped several hints regarding the existence of a public celebration involving hoaxes.

With this long and rather boring introduction about the origin of April Fool’s day, we now invite you to read about some of the most delicious and amusing public hoaxes perpetrated over the years.

1. Aquinas College Pregnancy Hoax

On the first of April, 2014, Stephen Barrow, an economics teacher at the Aquinas College has just started his class. The teacher had a strict rule about phones going off in class – whoever received a phone call must put the person on speaker.

As fate would have it, Taylor Nefcy’s phone began to ring during Barrow’s class, and the woman had no other choice but to answer it. To her misfortune, the person on the other line was a Pregnancy Resource Center representative who informed the woman that her tests were positive. The woman blushed, and Barrow said that it would be for the best for the woman to step outside and finish her phone call.

2. Big Ben Digital April Fool’s Hoax

On the first of April, 1980, BBC announced that, in order to keep up with modern times, the Big Ben would receive a digital display. More than that, BBC said that the clock hands of London’s most iconic landmark would be donated to the first four people who hop on the phone. Needless to say, BBC got a lot of calls that day, including from a Japanese sailor in the Atlantic who said he wanted one the clock’s hands.

Probably the most amusing part is the fact that, shortly after making the announcing, the radio station received tons of calls from scandalized citizens who demanded that the clock be left alone.

3. Virgin Cola’s Take on Competition

In 1996, on April Fool’s Day, Virgin Cola placed an ad in a British newspaper saying that thanks to a new type of technology, all the Virgin Cola cans which passed their date of expiration will turn blue. The ad concluded that people should avoid consuming beverage from any can that is blue. By pure coincidence, the very same day, Pepsi announced its new line of beverages which came in bright blue cans.

SCE And Tesla Teamed Up For A Battery Storage Facility

SCE teamed up with Tesla for a large scale, battery storage facility in Ontario, California

SCE or the Southern California Edison teamed up with Tesla as the two developed a large scale, battery storage facility in Ontario, California. The new system should power up almost 15,000 homes, even during peak hours.

This new system was officially released earlier this week. On January 30, SEC authorities and Tesla officials presented the new Mira Loma energy storage station.

Situated in Ontario, California, the project was developed in a record time. It took only about three months before the system was up and running. Last year, Tesla proposed a new energy solution. In less than six months, their proposal is already operational.

The company collaborated with the Southern California Edison. SEC, an electric utility company, jumped at the idea. It could help impose a new, efficient electron-storing solution. SEC was already looking to complete its grid. The urgency was determined by the closing down of the Aliso Canyon.

Whilst this latter was a natural gas storage facility, the new solution will also be more environmentally friendly. The new Mira Loma site is a 20-megawatt energy storage facility.

It is based on industrial inverters and Tesla Powerpacks. These are spread over a 1.5-acre lot. The Tesla battery boxes may not look too impressive. But they are quite powerful. They should be able to power up around 15,000 homes. Their energy needs should be sustained over 4 hours in peak periods.

The battery facility could also ensure a house’s entire daily needs. But in such cases, the grid would only power up about 2,500 homes.

Still, this new SEC solution is an important alternative. It could help fill up the energy gaps. And it could do so without aid from fossil fuel-powered stations.

The Mira Loma unit is one of the largest electron-storing solutions in the world. Kevin Payne went to offer details. He is the SCE CEO. And according to him, this is not o test or a pilot program.

The facility is fully functional and already running. This new project is also part of a step in a bigger program. It is part of the Southern California Edison’s vision for the future.

CES’s new facility is also quite easy and fast to set up. Tesla Powerpack containers and inverters just have to be connected. They need a concrete base and to be installed. After that, they are connected to the power grid.

On Monday, the energy-storage station went online. The system analyzes the power grid. As it detects a surplus, its large batteries pull it. Stored in the batteries, this energy can be used as a backup.

Before such systems were created, surplus power was wasted away. Its source, be it renewable or fossil fuel, did not matter.

The Tesla Powerpacks will be able to provide energy in cases of outages. Or they could supplement the grid when it is maxed out. This latter could happen in periods with high consumption levels. For example, in the summer.

Mira Loma could become an invaluable part of the system. Presently, renewable energy sources produce more energy than the system requires. In the past, such power was lost. But now it can be stored and used later on.

This will also help the SEC and similar providers reduce the need of fossil-fuel-generated electricity. The new storage battery system is expected to expand. More such stations could appear over the next few years.

Kroger Pharmacies Will Start Offering Prescription Free Naloxone

Jan 31, 2017 By Jose Buttner Leave a Comment

kroger pharmacies

Kroger pharmacies will start selling naloxone without a prescription throughout West Virginia.

On Monday, Kroger pharmacies officials announced that their stores will start selling naloxone without a prescription throughout West Virginia.

The Kroger company is a retailing company. Founded in 1883, it is based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kroger is one of the largest supermarket chains and retailers. It also one of the United States’ biggest companies.

Kroger’s operates in various sectors. It has multi-department stores and supermarkets. The former includes a food and drug stores combination. Their brand names vary according to state.

In West Virginia, they are known as Kroger pharmacies. And they will now be introducing a new feature. The change was announced on January 30. It was released by the company’s Mid-Atlantic Division officials.

West Virginia-based Kroger pharmacies will start selling naloxone without a prescription. This feature is already being used in the chain’s Kentucky and Ohio stores. These have been offering prescription free naloxone for almost a year. The change was introduced in early 2016.

Now, Kroger’s will be expanding this same service to West Virginia. The prescription free drug should be available in all of their stores. There are 34 Kroger pharmacies spread throughout the state.

Back in 2016, West Virginia adopted a new law. Its Legislature started allowing pharmacies to dispense prescription free naloxone. Since then, several pharmacy chains have already adopted the measure. Kroger pharmacies will just be the latest.

CVS, Walgreens, and Fruth Pharmacy are already offering such a service. And they just some examples from the list.

Michele Fountain offered some details. She is the Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division pharmacy clinical sales manager. According to Fountain, Kroger pharmacies will start offering a life-saving tool. This will start being available for anyone that may need it.

Fountain pointed out naloxone’s various uses. It could be a preventive measure for people affected by a chronic opioid pain management. This can develop based on various previous health issues. Injuries or cancer pains are amongst the more common.

Company officials stated that the Kroger pharmacists received an additional training. They were also offered extra guidance. As such, they should now be better prepared to dispense the medicine.

Prescription free naloxone pharmacies will still have some regulations. Pharmacists will still have to fill a request. This will be the same as filling a prescription. And they will still have to provide customer information. These latter will be offered medicine details and treatment options. They may be offered a device training.

Kroger pharmacies officials also pointed out the following. Customers should not waive away these consultations. The information offered by the pharmacists will benefit them. According to a coordinator, purchasing naloxone has an educational component.

This latter targets two main points. One is how to properly recognize and define overdose signals and signs. The other is the proper product administration procedure.

The educational component is also a law requirement. West Virginia laws called for the development of such a program. This had to include educational materials, documentation, and patient counseling.

Naloxone will be a prescription-free drug. At the Kroeger pharmacies, it will still be behind the counter. Those wishing to purchase the medicine will go through a slightly longer process. It will be somewhat longer than a routine prescription.

But the educational part is both required and should also be helpful. Naloxone is an easy-to-use, safe variant against possible overdoses. However, it does not substitute emergency care.

Here Are the Biggest 2016 Blockbusters

Dec 25, 2016 By Benjamin Teh Leave a Comment

Captain America Civil War Cast

Civil War was one of the biggest 2016 blockbusters.

Be it the ultimate superhero clash that comic book fans were nervously expecting, or the sequel to one of the most popular Disney animated films of all times, the biggest 2016 blockbusters were a delight for audiences of all ages and preferences.

The Biggest 2016 Blockbusters

Marvel Studios together with Disney have taken over the big screens this past year. Dory’s Voyage brought over $1 billion from tickets alone, while Iron Man and Captain America’s plight exceeded the $1 billion mark.

DC adaptations also scored highly when it comes to ticket sales, but the audiences were not as pleased with the blockbusters’ quality.

Here are the biggest and most well-received movies of 2016.

Captain America: Civil War

When Civil War first hit theaters in May, it was the first movie to go over the $1 billion mark. Audiences proved once again that Marvel superheroes know how to sell, while the company managed to rise to their expectations and deliver a quality superhero action movie that held viewers glued to their seats.

The next Marvel movie that will hit theaters in May 2017 is Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Fans are already saying that it is going to be as good, if not better, than the first installment of the “Space Avengers.” One thing is for sure, the Marvel production will surely fill cinemas across the world.

Deadpool

Released on the 12th of February, 2016, Deadpool isn’t exactly what you would call a cult classic superhero movie. It’s the other way around, in fact. The movie’s protagonist possesses a superhuman regeneration ability, but he’s more about cracking oversexualized jokes and setting things on fire than actually fighting to protect humanity.

Although the movie had a budget of $58 million, Deadpool was so well received by public and critics that it returned a profit of $760 million. So, if you’re into explosions, snappy comebacks, and sex-related jokes, then Deadpool is the right movie for you.

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad was released on the 1st of August 2016 and was directed by David Ayer, who also wrote and directed other cult classics such as Sabotage, Fury, End of Watch, and Street Kings. The movie had lots of fans even before it was launched mostly due to the scenes depicting the twisted relationship between the Joker played by Jared Leto and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

Although some of the critics said that the result was disappointing, to say the least, the public decided though otherwise. Suicide Squad tells the story of an unusual strike team consisting of psychopathic killers, witches, paid assassins, and a Japanese girl whose katanas can actually capture the souls of those it killed.
