The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has issued a nationwide Amber Alert following the disappearance of 15-year-old Elizabeth Thompson on Sunday.
Recently, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a nationwide Amber Alert for Elizabeth Thomas, the adolescent who was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint by Tad Cummins, a 50-year-old ex-school teacher, involved in multiple sex scandals. According to eyewitness accounts, Thomas and Cummins were last sighted on Monday in Columbia. The authorities stated that suspect might have two handguns in his possession and is considered extremely dangerous.
During a press conference held on Thursday, Josh Devine, a spokesperson for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, declared that a nationwide Amber Alert had been issued, following the disappearance of 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas of Maury County.
According to Devine, since the Amber Alert was issued, the authorities received approximately 125 tips from citizens all over the state. However, Devine added that the number of tips regarding the whereabouts of Thompson and Cummins is inconsequential, taking into account that the kidnapper and his victim might be anywhere by now.
To this end, Devine and Phil Keith, the former chief of Knoxville Police and the ex-director of the Amber Alert system, asked the citizens to keep their eyes open for the suspect and his victim, as any tip, no matter how small, can bring the authorities one step closer to finding Thompson and Cummins.
Keith also added that after an Amber Alert is issued, the chances of finding the victim alive and well are very high (98 to 99 percent). However, Keith said that this is an overwhelming undertaking, even for the law enforcement authorities. To this end, Keith asked the public to keep their eyes open and to dial 911 if they see anyone resembling Elizabeth Thomas or Tad Cummins.
According to the most recent piece of information received by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, it appears that Thompson and Cummins might have been seen in Decatur, Alabama. However, the authorities could not confirm nor deny the tip’s validity.
Elizabeth Thomas was last seen on Monday, at approximately 7:30 am when a friend of hers dropped her off at Shoney’s. An hour later, a surveillance camera mounted at a Shell gas station, shows the suspect walking by.
Thomas is 15 year of age, approximately 5’5’’ and weighs 120 pounds. She has blonde hair and wears thick and black glasses. Police reports suggest that the victim and her kidnapper have been sighted in a Silver Nissan Rogue, bearing the tags 976ZPT. Those possessing information about the criminal and is a victim are asked to call 1-800-TBI-FIND.
