There have been many rumors regarding the fact that Apple wants to extend their technological variety with a revolutionary Apple Car.
Project Titan in which Sumner brothers are working is expected to come up with a prototype of an Apple vehicle, but it seems that the electric car release date is postponed until 2021.
It appears that Project Titan is facing some difficulties which have delayed the release date. It is expected that the Sumner brothers will develop new software capable of storing the large amounts of data which will be generated by the future Apple Car.
Some reports stated that Sumner brothers intend to purchase and configure the servers which Apple needs in order to develop this technology. It means that all the data will be uploaded and stored on Apple servers that will grant the company enough resources to manufacture a self-driving car with revolutionary features.
Cloud infrastructure needs a massive development. Otherwise, Apple won’t be able to deal with such a staggering amount of data.
This change has already been made by Tesla Motors, who started a collaboration with Amazon Web Services. This partnership will grant the company the opportunity to cope with the requirements of its technology.
For instance, a self-driving car will most likely produce around 10 GB of data each mile, based on the statistics given by the DeepMap CEO of mapping technology provider of self-driving systems. In Apple’s case, the Titan Project is expected to be equipped with a viable solution to face this technological challenge.
It is not known yet whether Apple car will be fully autonomous. It is still possible that the vehicle will benefit from a technology that will allow drivers to activate and deactivate the self-driving mode by themselves, just as in the case of Tesla’s Autopilot mode.
Besides the software power issues, experts believe that the delay of the Apple’s Car release date might also come from the fact that Steve Zadesky, the former Project Titan head, decided to leave because of personal reasons.
Changing the leadership and the strategy also takes some time. Despite the fact that Apple did not answer any questions about Apple Car and Project Titan, it is clear that the development is still in progress.
