People who suffer from depression or other mental problems are not treated as they are supposed to. The mental health services are not as good as they are supposed to be and there is a lack of facilities for people with mental problems.
This Awareness Week should really open the eyes of state officials and those who are in charge of health services in order to make more facilities for people with mental issues and to stop the stigma. Many believe that depression, a serious mental illness, is just an impression and people who suffer from it are just faking it.
The problem with mental illnesses is that they are not curable, like an injury or a broken arm; they remain there for the rest of your life. Living with these problems can be hard, especially when you don’t have anyone to help you or a facility where you can get treatment.
There are a lot of people who suffer from mental health issues and don’t know about them or just pretend like they are just fine. In 2002 the statistics showed that more than 150 million people suffered from depression around the world. The numbers haven’t declined, just the opposite, they are even bigger year by year.
This year those who organized the Awareness Week for this type of disorders have a special theme: connecting with nature. This theme was chosen because it is great for people to connect with nature and it helps them get better.
Doctors mentioned that people need to figure out that they have a problem before it is too late so that they could get medication and be part of the society. More facilities and more understanding are other factors that could help people with mental health issues.
If a person has mental health problems he or she could get to the point where they see no solution and get hurt. In general people with mental illnesses start to harm themselves and even think about suicide if they have no other option.
In order to stop these problems caused by mental health diseases every year, this special week is organized. People need to be aware of their illnesses, no matter what type of illnesses, to get better and to have a normal healthy life.
