The best jobs in America have been revealed in a Glassdoor report, and while results may not be that surprising, they still show some interesting trends in various occupational fields.
The annual ranking published by Glassdoor, a career marketplace which brings together candidates and recruiters, is the second to be released by the company’s researchers, and illustrates which jobs are the most desirable across the United States nowadays.
Experts analyzed job titles which had benefited from a minimum of 75 testimonials from users regarding work opportunities, as well as at least 75 such reviews describing financial compensation, during a study period spanning between January 8, 2015 and January 7, 2016.
Positions were also analyzed in terms of how many job listings referring to such vacancies were available to potential candidates on January 8, 2016.
After carefully processing this data, Glassdoor specialists assigned scores from 1 to 5 to each occupation, assessing how lucrative it was (depending on average annual base salary), how in-demand it was (while taking into account active job ads) and how significant its career prospects were.
It was determined that the best job in the United States at the moment is that of data scientist, a position that involves analyzing big data, in order to discover hidden patterns that could turn into business opportunities for potential clients.
Almost just as satisfying is working as a tax manager, which usually involves providing financial advice and expertise so that customers can manage their resources more carefully, while complying with federal laws and other regulations.
Rounding off the top three is the solutions architect role, which is essential in the software development process, and involves creating a blueprint for the project, which will enable the team to implement it successfully.
Fourth on the list the position of engagement manager, which entails serving as an intermediary between a client and a vendor in charge of a specific project, so as to ensure that the services being delivered by the latter correspond to the needs expressed by the former.
Overall, the some of the most profitable jobs appear to be those in the technology field, with professions like that of mobile developer, software engineer, technical account manager, software architect, UX designer, analytics manager and software development manager).
Equally attractive appears to be finance, with occupations like that of audit manager, or finance manager.
In addition, the marketing and business sector guarantees high job satisfaction, especially among marketing managers, consultants, business development managers, quality assurance managers, product marketing managers and strategy managers.
The healthcare industry also seems to be like a safe bet for those interested in a good job, positions such as those of physician assistant or nurse practitioner being especially worthwhile.
Other job listings with great appeal are related to electrical engineering, personnel management (the HR manager position), or the building industry (with jobs like that of construction superintendent).
For those focusing especially on financial retributions, it’s worth taking into account that in the list featuring America’s best jobs, the highest base salaries are among software development managers (who earn up to $135,000 per year), while the lowest correspond to the position of technical account manager (with annual earnings of around $69,500).
At the opposite side of the spectrum, the worst jobs across the nation are those of guest services manager, accounts payable specialist, insurance agent and reporter.
Given that as much as 45% of the working-age population in the United States is currently considering searching for a new job or has already started this process, this new ranking will hopefully provide candidates with a sense of direction when attempting to change careers, in order to enter a more profitable and in-demand field.
