Californian Torturing Couple Kept Children Locked Up Like Cattle
On Monday, the Riverside deputies were summoned to a Perris house to what appeared to be a case of child endangerment. The caller, a 17-year-old girl, told the 911 dispatcher that she found several small children locked inside her parents’ basement and living in horrific conditions.
Upon arriving at the Californian couple’s home and entering the basement, the law enforcement authorities were greeted by a nightmarish scene: several individuals were found chained to filthy beds, and there was a foul smell in the basement.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a total of 12 individual were liberated from the insalubrious basement, seven of them being adults, aged 18 to 29. The youngest of victims was 2-years-old, according to the official police report.
Moreover, all the victims were severely malnourished, authorities mistaking them for very small children and all they showed signs of torture. When confronted, the Californian torturing couple could not offer any plausible reason for the individuals’ deplorable physical condition nor why they’ve decided to lock them up in the house’s basement.
According to the police report, the couple, identified as 57-year-old David Turpin and 49-year-old Louise Turpin, are the owners of the Sandcastle Day School, a private K-12 school, which operates in the couple’s house.
Records show that during the 2016-2017 school year, approximately 12 individuals enrolled, but they haven’t been seen by anyone.
The Californian torturing couple was brought on charged of child endangerment and torture and are being held on a $9 million bond. All victims were transported to the local hospital where they’ve received food, water, and medical attention.
