Have you ever wondered the fastest way to get a ride on a busy day is? Trouble yourself no longer, young wayfarer, because Google Maps is all that you need in order to get around the city. Calling a cab is now possible on Google Maps thanks to the new update which will soon be released on Android and iOS.
How is this possible, you ask? According to Google, you’ll be able to order a cab from the same application without the need to switch to more specialized applications.
But the news version of Google Maps it much more than your regular cab calling application. From what we can figure out, the enhanced Google Maps can show you what ride to take and when to take it in order to reach your destination safe and sound.
As we know, the app’s route calculate has three rows: in the first row, the user has to input the starting point, which is usually determined using the GPS while the second will be used for the destination.
In the first versions of the application, Google Maps had three dedicated tabs: a route calculator for users travelling by car, another one for those who want to travel by train or bus and, finally, for those who wish to take a stroll.
The latest version of Google Maps features a fourth tab called Cab Rides. Once the users tap on the cabs button, the software will automatically search using the network connection for taxis using the user’s preferred apps.
For instance, if the users have the Uber app installed, Google Maps will immediately start searching for all Uber cabs. And, depending on your geographical position, you will have more or fewer cab services available.
According to Google, while Uber is available all over the US, other countries like UK, Germany, India or Spain can other cab services like Hailo, 99Taxis, Ola Cabs, Get and mytaxi.
Furthermore, depending on their location and cab availability, users can benefit from premium cab services like UberX and UberBlack.
When asked about the launch date, Google said that it will start rolling out the Android and iOS update over the following weeks.
Until then, sit tight, use Google Maps to get your bearing or use other apps in order to call for a cab. Google Maps is pretty high, especially when the users has to get around a large city and doesn’t know what rides to take in order to reach a particular location.
Plus, Google Maps’ ETAs are pretty accurate for a free application.
