Are you fond of eating broccoli?
Doctors have recently discovered an enzyme in the natural world that can help you prevent signs of aging. You can introduce the enzyme in your organism by eating broccoli. A new study on mice showed new benefits of the green vegetable and the specialists are confident about similar results in humans.
The recent study was led by experts at a University School of Medicine in Washington, in partnership with the Keio University in Tokyo. They found out that there are special compounds in broccoli which make other cells seem younger. The researchers observed the results on mice which showed signs of looking younger through their renewed cells.
There is an element about broccoli which encodes the property of renewing cells. This compound’s name is nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), and it produces another element, which is responsible for energy metabolism.
As far as the lab experiment was concerned, what the researchers did was increase the amount of nicotinamide mononucleotide that the mice received. The normal reaction was that the NMNs produced more enzymes which triggered energy metabolism.
The specialists who conducted the study noted the effects of the substances in broccoli on the lab mice. The rodents were in a process of aging at the normal rate. However, after the broccoli-based treatment, they showed signs of improved health status. Their sight got better and the level of sugar in their blood had improved too.
Moreover, growing old is associated with specific weight loss. The researchers observed that this effect was curbed too by the compounds which can be found in broccoli.
The leader of the research team explains that enzymes such as nicotinamide mononucleotides are responsible for the level of energy in both mice and humans. The process of aging makes subjects lose their energy. However, if it is boosted, the process of growing old can be slowed down.
There are several advantages of eating broccoli, as health experts have always stressed. The green vegetable is good for your skin and your immune system. It also has a good effect on your kidneys, and it is said to prevent osteoarthritis and even fight against cancerous cells.
The next step for researchers is to test the recently discovered effect of broccoli on humans. They intended to develop pills based on the enzymes found in the vegetable and observed how well it can slow the process of aging in humans.
The new study on the benefits of broccoli was published in Cell Metabolism.
