
Exercise more to hide your age!
Doctors have always suggested that exercising is a healthy activity, regardless of the age of patients. A new study finds that adults and elderly people tend to indulge themselves and neglect physical activity. Since their own health and life quality depends on this, specialists suggest that they should exercise more.
The new study was carried out by specialists at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Their research is based on the results of people interviewed on their daily routine and habits two years ago. This time, they only focused on elderly people, aged more than fifty.
According to this recent study, one American out of four should exercise more. This means that 31 million elderly people in the United States are neglecting their physical activities. The findings of the study also point out that women tend to be more sedentary than men. Twenty-nine percent of the elderly American women should exercise more than they use to, while twenty-six percent of men need to be more active physically.
The study showed that the older people in Colorado are the most healthy when it comes to exercising. More than eighty percent of the people here are physically active. On the other hand, Arkansas got the lowest percentage. The research also points out that residents in the Southern parts of the United States tend to be more sedentary than those living elsewhere.
Why do researchers advise elderly people to exercise more? Because their findings point out that people tend to lose their interest in physical activity as they grow old. It is mostly young people the ones who are regularly engaged in physical activity. However, their medical needs are equally important both when they are young and old.
Specialists define as “physically inactive” people who carry out only their daily tasks, such as going to work, shopping or doing the house chores. Exercising and physical activity refers to jogging or even walking rapidly in the park. Experts explain that such activities have beneficial effects on people’s health, as living a sedentary life can lead to severe medical problems.
Researchers know that many people become inactive after entering the routine of working for eight hours in an office, for instance. They explain that falling into this habit comes with several health risks. Doctors investigated the problems which arise due to the lack of physical activity, and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer are only a few of them.
So if you are concerned about your sedentary lifestyle, you should follow the specialists’ advice and find time to exercise more!
