Although five years have passed since Jillian Johnson from the United States has lost baby Landon, she’s having a hard time talking about her experience. However, after careful reconsideration, Jillian decided to open up and share her breastfeeding experience with young mothers from the country.
Probably the hardest thing you would have to do as a parent is to bury your child. However tragic these happenings may be, they too are a part of being a parent. A mother from the United States of America experienced the loss of her infant three days after being released from the maternity.
The coroners said that the official cause of death is cardiac arrest by severe dehydration. Jillian Johnson recalls that baby Landon was born on the 24th of February 2012. Since the baby was too big for a natural birth, the doctor advised Jillian that a caesarean section is the best option.
After the surgery, Jillian’s doctors told her that she had polycystic ovary syndrome, a condition which could hamper the woman’s ability to breastfeed her child. Due to this anomaly, Jillian couldn’t produce enough milk to fill up baby Landon’s belly.
However, the woman told the reports that she followed the doctors’ instructions to the letter, even though they’ve not told her about giving Landon baby formula since she could not produce enough milk.
The woman recalls that after being kept under observation for three days, the doctors discharged them from the hospital. After arriving home, the woman did everything the doctors told her to do – she ditched the baby milk supplements and opted for exclusive breastfeeding.
A few days later, Jillian noticed that little Landon was not sleeping or pooping and each time she tried to breastfeed him; he would start crying uncontrollably.
Jillian recalls that, at one point, the child became unresponsive and that she was forced to call an ambulance. The paramedics told the woman that the child was in cardiac arrest. After taking him to the hospital, the doctors managed to resuscitate him.
Unfortunately, a brain MRI revealed that Landon suffered severe brain damage due to his cardiac arrest and was placed on life support. A few days later, Jillian and her husband decided to take the child off life support.
The official coroner’s report stated that Landon entered cardiac arrest due to severe dehydration, meaning that was never receiving enough milk each time Jillian tried to breastfeed him.
