On Monday, a family of four was discovered dead inside a Galveston hotel. Authorities declared that all victims present gunshot wounds and believe the mother to have gunned down the family before committing suicide. The so-called Galveston hotel shooting is considered by many to be one of the bloodiest events to strike the small Texan community in the last decade.
Four Dead in Galveston Hotel Shooting
Tragedy struck the Galveston community after a family has been discovered dead inside the San Luis Hotel. Captain Josh Schirard, the Galveston Chief of Police declared that all the victims had apparently been gunned down by a 37-year-old female, who later committed suicide.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., the law enforcement authorities responded to an emergency call coming from the San Luiz Hotel. A distressed hotel guest told the 911 operator that he heard several muffled shots coming from a nearby room.
Upon arriving on the scene and entering the room located on the 8th floor of the San Luiz Hotel, the authorities discovered four deceased family members – a 39-year-old male, two infants, aged 5 to 10, and a 37-year-old woman.
Schirard told the press that, despite their injuries, the victims present some sign of life. They were rushed to the local hospital for emergency surgery, but they’ve passed away later that day.
Although the Galveston hotel shooting appears to be the work of an outside perpetrator, Schirard declared that this is not the case. The forensic analysis established that the woman was the one who gunned down the family before turning the weapon on her.
No motive could have been established, as the family had no history of violence. The murder weapon, a 9-mm pistol was found in proximity to the woman’s corpse.
Deeply moved by this incident, Schirard pointed out that no amount of police training could prepare an individual for such a gruesome event.
Interestingly enough, the Galveston hotel shooting bears a striking resemblance to the Andrea Yates’ case, the Houston woman who drowned her five children in the bathtub.
