Jamie L. Baker, the widow of the late James Baker Junior, renowned bodybuilder and professional weightlifter, has pleaded guilty to murdering her husband by spiking his steroids bottles with antifreeze. Initially charged with first-degree murder, the judge decided to prosecute the woman for second-degree murder instead, after Jamie L. Baker pleaded guilty to her murder charge. For the murder of her husband, the woman might serve up to 15 years in prison.
Jamie L. Baker, the late James Baker’s wife, has been found guilty of murdering her husband in 2013 by spiking his steroids supply with anti-freeze she took from the garage.
According to the authorities, back in September 2013, the woman dialed the emergency number and told the authorities that she found her husband dead in the couple’s bedroom. The authorities picked up the bodybuilder’s lifeless body and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
On the 13th of March, 2014, the officials returned to Baker’s house and arrested the woman on the charge of first-degree murder. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner declared that the autopsy performed on James Baker revealed traces of Ethylene Glycol, a substance commonly found in anti-freeze.
The coroners found significant deposits of Ethylene Glycol in the man’s kidneys, which eventually cause them to shut down. The autopsy revealed that death did not occur instantaneously and that a great amount of the substance was needed to achieve the results.
After serving a house search warrant, the police officials discovered syringes, pills, and a toolbox locked inside the bedroom’s closet in which Baker kept his supply of steroids.
Following her arrest in March, the woman was interviewed regarding how she killed her husband. Jamie L. Baker told the investigators that she would draw anti-freeze from the garage using a hypodermic needle, and then injecting the substance in her husband’s steroid bottles.
The investigators are still puzzled about the reason why the 42-year-old woman chose to murder James Baker, the man with whom she was married for 21 odd years. During her trial, Jamie L. Baker willingly pleaded guilty to poisoning her husband, but, according to court documents, offered no details when asked why she did it.
For her deed, the woman might be sentenced to 15 years or even to life imprisonment. The woman’s attorney declared that Baker doesn’t wish to attack the judge’s decision.
