Law enforcement from Indianapolis, Indiana, is still looking for Amanda Blackburn’s killer, and apparently newly released photos taken by a surveillance camera might help advance the case.
The 28-year old woman, who was 12 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, was the wife of Resonate Church pastor Davey Blackburn.
It is believed that an unidentified suspect broke into the couple’s home, at 2812 Sunnyfield Court, on November 10, after the victim’s husband left at approximately 6:10 a.m.
Earlier that Tuesday morning, at around 5:30 a.m. another burglary had been reported at a nearby residence, and most likely the same intruder also reached the Blackburns’ house, after initially believing it to be empty.
This is how he encountered his victim, whom he immediately attacked and shot in the head, neighbors reporting that they could hear gunfire at around 6:45 a.m.
Afterwards, the gunman left the building, carrying several stolen television sets. His getaway car was allegedly a dark-hued SUV, which was reported speeding shortly after the incident.
When the victim’s husband returned at around 8:30 a.m., he understood that something terrible had happened, upon entering his home and finding it ransacked.
At the time, the woman’s toddler son, 15-month old Weston, was also present in the house, but luckily he was asleep in a crib located in another room upstairs and managed to escape unharmed.
Amanda Blackburn however had sustained severe injuries, and there was no possibility to save her life. Her organs were harvested by a medical team for donation the following day, when she was also taken off life support. On Thursday, the young expectant mother was pronounced dead by coroners.
The attack has been deemed an “unspeakable” crime of opportunity, which has appalled the local community, according to Tim Conley, Detective Specialist at Crime Stoppers’ Central Indiana bureau.
Apparently, investigators found no signs of forced entry, but wouldn’t elaborate if that was because the door had been left unlocked or because the murderer discovered another way to be admitted in the building.
Two photographs showing the suspect from behind, as he was getting away from the crime scene were captured by surveillance systems, and were made public by police officers on Monday evening.
While his actual name and age remain unknown, detectives have revealed that he is African-American, between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall and with a body frame somewhat between slim and medium. In the footage, he was wearing a hoodie with a lighter hood and a darker bottom, as well as a pair of light-colored pants.
If anyone is able to identify the culprit or has any other relevant information pertaining to this investigation, no matter how trivial it might initially seem, they should contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477). A reward of $1,000 has been placed, even for anonymous tips regarding the unsolved murder of Amanda Blackburn.
