Raleigh authorities reported that the body of a 17-year-old female has recently been discovered in a heavily wooded area around West Lake Court. Officials confirmed that the body belongs to Lauren Maria Jenkins, the teenager who was reported missing on Friday. They’ve also believed that the young female has been involved in a car accident not far from where her body was found. At this time, the authorities don’t have any reasons to believe that the Raleigh teenager was murdered.
John Jones, a Raleigh Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, recently declared that upon a conducting a sweep of an area known as Leesville Road, the law enforcement officers aided by a canine unit discovered the body of a teenage female. The initial investigation confirmed that the corpse belongs to Lauren Maria Jenkins, a teenager who’s been missing since Friday night.
According to the Raleigh Sheriff’s Office, the Raleigh teenager was involved in a car accident sometimes during the night of her disappearance. After interviewing the witnesses, the investigators have discovered that after the accident, the teenager simply got up and left the scene, refusing to wait for the authorities.
Failing up to arrive home, Lauren’s parents notified the authorities who began searching the area around the crash site. Shortly after heading into the woods, the canines accompanying the officers picked a distinct scent coming from an area surrounded by two ponds. Oddly enough, upon approaching the area indicated by the dogs, the police officers met an individual who declared that he saw something resembling a human corpse near the ponds area.
After examining the location, the law enforcement officers discovered the teen’s body. The site’s examination did not provide the investigators with any clues pertaining to the teenager’s cause of death. For the time being, the Raleigh Sheriff’s Department dismissed the possibility of homicide, as the corpse showed no signs of trauma. Moreover, it would seem that none of Lauren’s belongings were missing.
The Raleigh teenager’s body was transported to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for an official post-mortem examination. According to the authorities, the autopsy’s results will be released in a couple of days.
