NYPD arrested a man involved in the murder of Karina Vetrano.

New York’s Police Department spokespersons declared that an arrest had been made in the case of Karina Vetrano, the 30-year-old jogger from Queens, who was found dead six months ago by her father. Authorities believe that Karina Vetrano was raped and strangled by her attacker, who later dumped her body in a marsh. Phil Vetrano, Karina’s father, was the one who found his daughter’s battered body while participating in a police search.

Karina Vetrano’s parents were relieved to find out that an arrest was made in the case of their daughter’s murdered. According to NYPD’s statements, an individual connected with Vetrano’s murder has been taken into custody and questioned on Saturday, at around 6 pm. Described only as being in his 20s, the man was staying in a public house located in Brooklyn. Police officials declared that the man taken into custody had no history of criminal activity and that his neighbors described him as being a quiet young man.

The case of Karina Vetrano, a 30-year-old jogger from Queens, was perhaps, one the most challenging cases the NYPD had to solve in the last six months. Right from the beginning, there were little clues to indicate the identity of the person who assaulted, raped, and strangled the woman.

According to the NYPD, Karina Vetrano disappeared on the 2nd of August, 2016, shortly after leaving her house. Testimonies indicated that Vetrano went jogging alone in the Spring Creek Park. The woman’s parents became worried after their daughter failed to answer her cell phone, and contacted the authorities.

Phil Vetrano, Karina’s father, told the authorities that his daughter would often go unaccompanied for a quick run. Fearing the worst, Phil decided to take part in the law enforcement officers’ effort of tracking down Karina.

After combing the area where the woman was last seen, Mr. Vetrano found Karina’s battered body in a marsh area. Further investigations revealed that the woman tried to fight her rapist before she was strangled.

Using a method called familial DNA testing, the authorities managed to track down the suspect, by analyzing the tissue sample harvested from Karina’s body. Phil Vetrano, who’s also an advocate for the controversial forensic method, said that his family can now rest easy because the savage who raped and killed his daughter is now behind bars.

Karina’s father also said that this new DNA testing technique can help others as well, and won’t rest until the whole state recognizes it as an official forensic test.
