The New Ghostbusters RPG will be launched this July, and it will be the result of a collaboration between Activision and Sony. The two companies came together to offer their fans the ultimate ghost busting experience. The new Ghostbusters RPG will be launched this July, 12th, 2016.
Unfortunately, there is some bad news for the fans of the movie series. The characters of the game will be newbies that are working in the Ghostbusters headquarters. And it seems that the video game will follow the events of the latest all-female installment.
It may be that they didn’t have enough funds to gather around the characters of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Not to mention that whatever and whoever Chris Hemsworth is playing, he’s just too expensive ever since he’s image was tied to the Asgardian god from the Marvel Universe.
Furthermore, the film’s release date is the 15th of July, meaning that if the game included the characters from the reboot, they would have come with serious spoilers. And the fans may not be delighted about the all-female cast, but they surely want to at least enjoy the gender-bending reboot without being spoiled by game reviews.
The reasons why the current characters were not used are pretty obvious, but what about the old, legendary ones? What about Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson). What about Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver)?
Maybe their characters are still under copyright, or maybe the reboot is really good, and fans will want to play the video game to see what happens next. And even if the movie is bad, the RPG looks like a lot of fun.
Activision and Sony may be on to something. No matter if the movie will be a flop or a success, the fans will be stirred, and they will be hungry for some serious ghostbusting activity.
Moreover, the two companies decided to add both male and female characters from which the players can choose. It seems that the game developers at least learned a valuable lesson from all of the commotion around the two movies.
The New Ghostbusters RPG will be launched this July 12th, and it will be available on X-box, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
And there is good news for mobile gamers, too. The two companies will also launch this July “Ghostbusters: Slime City” for iOS and Android devices.
