Nutrisystem has issued a recall of the Nutricrush Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bars due to a possible Listeria contamination. These bars contain a cookie dough chocolate chip ingredient, which is thought to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Fortunately, the distribution was short consisting of 455 products shipped to Hannaford and ShopRite stores in Vermont, Virginia, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Connecticut.
It is worth mentioning that these bars were also sold through Walmart and Amazon. No other products have been contaminated besides this stock. Customers who still have the recalled Nutrisystem bars should immediately discard or return them to the Hannaford or Shoprite for a full refund.
Although no cases have been reported yet, users can identify the Nutrisystem Nutricrush Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough 5-count carton by the UPC 6 32674 85579 4, Lot Code NF082216A, Date of August 22nd, 2017.
To see if the product corresponds, customers should check the carton’s back panel. This recall is conducted with the joint efforts of the company and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
For any additional information or questions about the recall, consumers can make a toll-free call at 866-293-8118, from Monday to Friday, 7 am to midnight, and on weekends from 8:30 am to 7 pm.
Listeria is an infection caused by powerful bacteria that survive in freezing conditions. This infection causes a wide variety of symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, stiffness, severe headache, and high fever.
Worse, Listeria monocytogenes can be fatal to children, seniors, pregnant women, and people with weak immune systems. It is worth mentioning that pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths as well.
These bacteria can also be found in frozen fruits and vegetables and the only way to make sure that your food doesn’t contain Listeria is to cook it at high temperatures. Using the microwaves is the most common mistake made by consumers because this device causes uneven heating, so some bacteria can survive.
Another product that can be contaminated with Listeria is ice cream. Besides Nutrisystem, Blue Bell is one of the top brands across the United States which recalled some of its stocks due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
