As unusual as it would might seem, recently a couple of villagers from Salubiro, Indonesia have discovered the body of a 25-year-old man who was eaten alive by a 23-foot-long reticulated python. Although this is the first time someone from the Salubiro village heard of a grown adult being gulped down by reticulated python, it’s not something uncommon, as the gigantic snakes are known to eat small children if they get really hungry.
The events that led to the discovery of 25-year-old Akbar in the belly of the beast began on Monday when the man’s uncle went to visit him. As the villagers said, Akbar works on the palm tree oil plantations surrounding the village of Salubiro, located on the eastern shore of the Sulawesi island.
Given the nature of his work, it was not uncommon for Akbar to not return home for days at an end. However, after discovering that the man’s house was empty and that nobody has seen him over the weekend, Akbar’s uncle became concerned and asked the help of the villagers to track him down.
While inspecting the palm tree oil plantation, Akbar’s uncle and the villagers discovered a couple of palm fruits, a single boot, and something resembling a harvesting implement near a plant tree. Hanging from a low branch, Akbar’s uncle and the villagers discovered a coiled 23-foot-long python which looked very odd.
According to the man, the reticulated python had a bloated abdomen, and it was moving in an unusual way. It’s not uncommon for a reticulated python to have a big belly, especially after gulping down a scrumptious meal, but it seems that that snake’s abdomen was larger than usual.
Fearing the worst, Akbar’s uncle and the rest of the search party decided to decapitate the 23-foot-long reticulated python and to tear open its abdomen.
Upon cutting his belly, the villagers saw the outline of a partially digested human body. It took them a few minutes to retrieve the body from the python’s abdomen. Finally, they were able to identify the man – it was Akbar, the same man who went missing over the weekend.
According to the coroner’s official report, it would appear that Akbar was taken completely by surprise by the gigantic python. The man had a severe wound on his back and coil marks around his neck.
A couple of snake specialists declared that the reticulated python’s diet consists of monkeys and other mammals, by they will occasionally attack and eat children if they are hungry.
