Have you tried getting your hands on the Snap Spectacles but never could reach their pop-up stores or Snapbots? No problem! Starting with February 20th, they will be generally available for sale.
Snap Inc. is a social media and technology company. The multinational is perhaps best-known for its social media app, Snapchat. But the Snap is also the producer of Spectacles.
The Snap Spectacles were first presented back in September 2016. Initially, the smartglasses pair had a specific target. They were to be used with Snapchat. More exactly, for its multimedia and image messaging functions. And the Snap Spectacles were solely sold in the Snapbot, the company’s pop-up vending machine.
Released back in November 2016, the smartglasses may soon be leaving a stronger mark. Initially released just by Snapbots, the Spectacles soon became available in Snap’s New York City-based pop-up stores. These latter started selling them some three months ago.
And since February 20, the Snap Spectacles will be generally available. Those wishing to acquire a pair will no longer have to hunt down the pop-up bots or stores. Instead, they can simply access their newest official website. Named simply, Spectacles.com will make it easier for anyone to buy the smartglasses.
By setting up their own website and online store, Snap is changing some of its current offers. For example, its pop-up stores have been closed. Nonetheless, this does not mean that they were shut down completely.
According to a company statement, the Snap stores will continue popping up in various locations. They will be back after a short pause. And they will start appearing all over the U.S.
As it opened up its own store, Snap Spectacles accessories will stop being available on Amazon. From now on, users will be able to buy them directly from the Spectacles website.
An additional Spectacles charging case will cost about $49,99. An extra smartglasses charging cord will cost about $9,99. The accessories will most likely have the same shipping time as the Snap Spectacles themselves. According to the company, the Spectacles should be shipped in about 2 to 4 weeks.
According to reports, Snap Spectacles have returned quite a positive feedback. The user response has been mostly positive. And they are reportedly quite pleased with the product.
The Snap Spectacles do come with their share of specs. They offer a circular video format which allows the user to view with their phone in any orientation. And the glasses can record videos of 10 up to 30 seconds at a time.
Snap’s Spectacles will still have a solely Snapchat-targeted use. But they will be more easy to buy. At least for the moment, they come in three color variants. These will be based on a black, red, and blue frame.
The Snap Spectacles come with a $129,99 price tag. One that will also include a charging cable and a case to hold them.
Following the website launch, a Snap Inc. spokesperson offered some details. These mostly revolved around the strategy change. And referenced a previous statement released by Evan Spiegel. He is the Snap Inc. CEO. According to him, Snap decided on an initially slow approach for the Spectacles.
Their initial roll out wanted to check the public’s opinion and reaction to the smartglasses. As it is, the feedback has been positive ever since they were launched. As such, the company decided that it is time to make them more generally available.
Everyone will be able to purchase them from now on. And this will most likely benefit those that were unable to reach the pop-up Snapbots.
