Lara Croft proves to be as successful as she was before, even in puzzle games.
As of today, Square Enix has launched a free expansion for Lara Croft GO, the mobile game inspired by the critically acclaimed Hitman GO.
Considering that the new Tomb Raider released by Square Enix flew a bit under the radar for most people, mainly because of its poor release date coinciding with Star Wars Battlefront and other major AAA games, it’s not surprising that the company would try to attract more people to the franchise by expanding it with this mobile game.
The investment which Square Enix puts at the moment in mobile gaming is not that new, even though they had a bit of a problem when it came to the Deus Ex: The Fall mobile game, which left some players feeling a bit sour, especially when the game was then ported to PC as well. But the jackpot they struck with Hitman GO pushed the company towards similar games, thus giving birth to Lara Croft GO.
Similar to the critically acclaimed turn based puzzle game Hitman GO, in which you had to use disguises and various tricks in order to assassinate you desired target in a stealthy fashion, Lara Croft GO has you travel around the world, solving environmental puzzles to traverse tombs and other various sites. You still do this in a turn based style gameplay, gathering a multitude of artifacts and circumventing creatures in order to get to the final goal of the level.
The new expansion titled “Shard of Life” will basically bring Lara Croft GO to a 2.0 version, bringing other features to the game besides a new chapter containing 26 new puzzles located in the Cave of Fire bringing the full number of challenges to a staggering 101 missions. The game will now benefit from an added snapshot feature and a language selection screen which now supports Traditional Chinese as well.
The new chapter will have achievements that players can attain as well as two new unlockable costume skins for Lara, in order to customize the treasure hunting femme fatale in whatever way you may desire.
During this release, Square Enix also provides customers with a major 40% discount if you choose to buy Lara Croft GO now, as a token for celebrating this new expansion release. Customers who already have the game will be able to search for the Shard of Life at no added cost.
The news that Square Enix has launched a free expansion for Lara Croft GO comes at a rather fortuitous time for fans of the Tomb Raider series, considering that now they have another option for them if they want to walk in the shoes of Lara Croft and brave traitorous tombs and dungeons in the search for treasure once again.
