Lonely Birthday For Autistic Girl

Jun 10, 2016 By Lori Martinez Leave a Comment

Sad teenager

Young girl celebrated her 18th birthday alone.

Hallee Sorenson from Maine has become ‘famous’ after the picture from her birthday has gone viral, touching many people’s hearts. The autistic girl will no longer have a lonely birthday party in the future.

Her cousin, Rebecca Prefontaine, posted the photo online and gathered around 90,000 shares in a short notice. Prefontaine also added that Hallee is an amazing person who does not want to let Autism define her.

The two girls living in Bangor decided to organize a nice 18th birthday party. However, none of Hallee’s friends came to her party. Even if she was looking forward to meeting with them, the girl ended up eating her birthday cake alone.

Prefontaine wishes her cousin’s 19th birthday party from this July to be way different than the previous one. As everyone can see, children from all around the world are being neglected. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma on autism because people do not know how to respond to it.

People suffering from autism, especially children need to be treated with love and understanding. Until people start changing their perspective, not just Hallee but also many teenagers like her will be the victims of ignorance.

Autism is not only something with which you deal with medication. Finding a way to communicate with someone who suffers from this problem is way greater than any medicine. Doctors are trying every day to find new strategies and develop new methods of fighting with autism.

This girl did not deserve to be treated this way, especially because she does not understand what happens around her like we do. Everyone can image how heartbreaking can be to be ditched by your friends at your 18th birthday party.

This stigma regarding autism has got to stop. Many associations around the world are trying to raise awareness and make people understand that we should support these children. We are the ones who have to set the example for future generations.

Our children will inherit our behavior, habits and our way of dealing with life. Therefore, we should be aware of what we pass on to them. All in all, this girl will no longer be alone on her birthday. This world is full of children that need our love and attention. We only need to stop being ignorant.
