Omega-3 prevents fatal heart attacks.
Recent research has shown that Omega-3 found in various types of food might turn out to be excellent for our health. A team of experts developed a study to establish what are the benefits of the fatty acids found in Omega-3.
According to Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, lead author and dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, in Boston, these fats must be a crucial part of everyone’s diet.
Scientists believe that the consumption of Omega-3 might be related to a lower risk of heart disease and strokes. It can be found in herring, sardines, anchovies, trout, salmon and other species of fatty fish.
It is also worth mentioning that canola oil, flaxseed oil, and walnuts as well as other types of nuts and seeds contain Omega-3, which is also known as alpha-linolenic acid.
Around 46.000 people from 16 countries participated in a total of 19 studies about the connection between Omega-3 acids and the risk of heart disease and stroke. About 8,000 people suffered a heart attack during these studies and 2,781 of them died.
Even if seafood and plants rich in Omega-3 did not drop off the risk of non-fatal heart attacks, they were associated with a 10 percent decline in the risk of fatal heart attacks, which is a good thing.
According to lead researcher, Liana Del Gobbo, a postdoctoral research scientist at Stanford University School of Medicine, these statistics showed that these fats are indeed efficient in preventing worst case scenarios related to heart conditions.
Plus, these results were based on the use of cholesterol-lowering medications, aspirin, absence or presence of diabetes, race, sex, and age. Healthy diets based on Omega-3 might be a good asset in keeping your heart healthy.
Other previous studies regarding Mediterranean diets have shown that healthy fats do not affect the weight. They were found to be highly effective against possible risk of developing severe health conditions.
Experts advise people to have a healthy lifestyle based not only on an excellent diet but also on physical exercises, such as fitness, or at least evening walks. It was established that diets rich in vitamins, healthy fats and Omega-3 reduce the risk of developing cancer by almost 60 percent in some cases, and they also prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.
