7 Tips for Surviving Allergy Season

Apr 3, 2016 By Lori Martinez Leave a Comment

"Allergy"

Follow the 7 tips for surviving allergy season listed below and you will get tough spring without incidents.

This year pollen will be taking hold of our nostrils a month earlier. Thus, the entire allergy season will last a month longer than usual. Even though allergies make it hard to enjoy nature’s rebirth and the smell of freshly blossomed trees, there are a couple of tricks that could help you leave the house without fear. Here are 7 tips for surviving allergy season.

Avoid Going Outside at Noon

Usually pollen levels peak around noon, so unless you’ve got urgent business to attend to, try avoiding going out at this time of the day. And if you do have to get out of the door, take a mask with you. It won’t look cool, but at least, it will protect your nose from any allergens.

Don’t Forget to Take Your Shoes Off

Pollen doesn’t just float around until the end of the season. It eventually ends up on the ground, and when you step in it, it sticks to your shoes, ergo if you don’t take your shoes off when you get home, you can spread pollen all around the house, making your or your family member’ allergies to kick in.

While we’re on the subject of taking off clothing items, it would be a good idea to change clothes, too. This way you avoid any chances of getting a clogged nose after you survived a trip outside.

Make Sure You Keep the Windows Closed

Even though spring is associated with the smell of thousands blooming flowers and the happy chirp of birds, it is also the season that kick-starts allergies because of all the pollen that is floating around.

The doctors advise individuals who are sensitive this time of year to keep their windows closed and used the air conditioning system to freshen up a room.

The same advice applies for car rides.

The Dryer Is Your Best Friend

Even though nothing smells fresher than clothes that were left outside to dry, try to avoid the practice during allergy season. Use the dryer instead and wait until summer, when the bees and butterflies finished their duty, and pollen is no longer threatening your airways.

Wear Big Sunglasses

Big sunglasses are a fashion item that should not be absent from anybody’s drawer. Apart from offering you that mysterious look, they also help keep the pollen out of your eyes.

Wash Your Hair

Wash your hair before going to bed. It will give you a fresh look in the morning, and you will be able to sleep without suddenly feeling like you can’t breathe because of a few grains of pollen that fell from your hair, onto your pillow and into your mouth and nose.

Take Your Medication

Doctors say that the best thing a person with allergies can do during the season is to take an antihistamine pill in the morning before leaving the house. And you can start taking them now before pollen levels skyrocket.

Hopefully, these 7 tips for surviving allergy season will help you get through spring easier.
