
Butter is good for your health.
Scientists have recently discovered that butter is not such a danger after all. Until now, some thought that butter might increase the risk of developing serious health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
A team of researchers from the Tufts University, Health Sciences Campus, has reviewed every study about butter including a total of 636,151 participants. Some 23,954 people developed type 2 diabetes, 9,783 eventually suffered from heart disease, and 28,271 participants died.
Scientists calculated 14 grams of butter every day per participant. Based on the results, butter consumption was not linked to a higher risk of developing heart conditions or diabetes. According to Laura Pimpin, data analyst of public health for the UK Health Forum, butter is healthier than potatoes, white bread, starch, or sugar. In fact, they are more likely to lead to some health problems instead of butter.
Nevertheless, there are other cooking oils which are healthier than butter including extra virgin olive oil products, because they contain flaxseed, soybean, canola, and a higher level of healthy fats. It is already known that Mediterranean diets are an excellent choice for many people as they are rich in healthy fats which can be found in fish, nuts, and olive oil.
According to Dariush Mozaffarian, lead senior author of the study, butter should not be considered an enemy of our diet. Further research will reveal which are the real benefits and the risks of butter consumption.
There are also some types of butter and other foods that contain omega-3 acid fats which are essential for our health. Omega-3 fats are found in natural almond and peanut butters, avocado, walnuts, and almonds.
According to Erin Keane, assistant clinical nutrition manager for outpatient services at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, these foods are a healthier choice than nut butters containing hydrogenated oil as well as the dark or red meat of poultry and chicken.
Worse, they can affect cholesterol levels. A healthy diet has always been a point of interest for many people. Experts are trying to understand the properties of these foods in order to provide the public with correct information about the food they eat.
Butter might turn out to be an essential part of a person’s diet if it does not imply huge risks.
