Washington County’s law enforcement officials had to deal with An appalling cases of child abuse seen in years. A Utah mother has recently been taken into custody after the authorities learned that the woman kept her son locked in a dark bathroom and refused to feed him. Sources said that the malnourished child spent at least a year locked inside the bathroom.
Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating a severe child abuse case, involving a 12-year-old boy from Tocqueville, Utah. According to the authorities, the child was found lying in the bathroom by his father on Friday evening, who immediately notified the Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. David Crouse, from Washington County’s Sheriff’s Office, said on Tuesday that this is the worst case of child abuse he has seen in years and that he would do anything to unsee it. According to Crouse, when the law enforcement officials arrived at the woman’s house, they’ve discovered a 12-years-old boy, who was too weak to stand on his feet.
The boy’s living conditions were appalling, to say the least. Inside the dark bathroom where his father found him, the authorities discovered piles of human feces, three empty cans of beans, a blanket, and a camera. The investigators believe that the Utah mother must have used the camera to record the boy’s torment.
Furthermore, the light switch was covered with a thick layer of duct tape to prevent the child from turning on the light. Also, the boy was not the woman’s only child, as authorities discovered he had two siblings.
When asked about their brother, the children said that the woman locked the child in the bathroom over a year ago for his own protection. What’s even more appalling is the fact that the children were not able to see or to talk to their brother for at least six months.
After the Utah mother was taken into custody and questioned regarding the child’s emotional and physical ill-treatment, she declared that the child was locked in the bathroom for his own protection while she was away. Moreover, the woman also claimed of having tried to feed him gym shakes for he lost a lot of weight.
Even the doctors who treated the little boy were appalled by his condition. Hospital spokespersons declared that the child weighed no more than 30 pounds when he was brought into the hospital.
As for the woman, she was a child with aggravated child endangerment and will make a court appearance on the 17th of January. All children were placed in protective custody, pending the trial. For confidentiality reasons, the authorities refused to disclose the names of the woman and her children.
